No More LIfetime Guarantee

Times, they are changing in New Jersey. Like many other states, there was a recent push in NJ to do away with permanent alimony or life time alimony meaning that based on your years married the moneyed spouse would have to support the unmoneyed spouse for a lifetime. However, with a unanimous vote today by the State Judiciary Committee permanent alimony is one step closer to being abolished. With the new potential law, marriages lasting less than 20 years could not have alimony payments longer than the marriage. Other changes have to do with termination due to cohabitation and unemployment. These changes have a long way to go before it becomes a law. We NDC will keep following the story.
